5 Spring Cleaning Tips

spring cleaning

Not everybody loves spring cleaning, but there are some great tips to help make it more fun and less work. It’s helpful to organize and get the house back in order. Don’t get too frustrated with cleaning. Partition off little bits of time to get a few things done here and there. Before you know it, your house will be spick and span, ready for spring’s arrival.

Make a List

One of the hardest things for people is knowing where to start with cleaning up space. Whether it is a house, apartment, or another type of home, getting started is often the hardest. To keep overwhelmed from setting in, start with the basics. Get a calendar and write down steps and goals to accomplish. Setting a goal to achieve will make it feel better when those goals are accomplished. Start with some simple ways to stay motivated by creating a ‘prize’ to attain once a goal is met.

Get Focused

An easy way to sabotage spring cleaning efforts is to tackle too much at one time. Focus on one or two things. One area at a time until it is done will make you feel more successful. Organize one spot in small steps. Decide how much to do and quit when that is done. The results will be fun once you have tried to do them for a time and finally get it all done then move on to space two.

Get Family Involved

Everyone, including kids, can do chores. Kids are more likely to help if they can focus on one task. Ask a partner or spouse to help with sorting letters, mail, and papers. Get kids to do laundry, clothes, and go through old things to donate in their closets. Sweep and mop the kitchen floors and wipe down counters, windows, and ledges that collect dust. Every little bit helps, but it is more manageable when people do their part and clean.

Finders Keepers

A time limit is definitely not a bad thing when it comes to doing a look-see around your home. If you have stuff you have not used in a while or need to know if it’s a keeper. Think about whether or not is a re-gift option or if it should be tossed. If something is not used for longer than 6 months, it likely won’t be used any time soon. If this is not something needed, throw it away and make room for other things.

Seek Help

Organizers who work professionally to help clean and sort old objects can be very helpful. As spring kicks off, don’t be afraid to start asking around for help. Look for specials and deals. House cleaning can be time-consuming. Get professional cleaners into glam up space and organizers to help declutter. Sometimes that is all it takes to start to spring off on the right foot. If you are not sure where to start, ask around the area and check reviews. Ask for some estimates and quotes before getting started.
